Official Deal: Avs Confirms Huge Deal For Another Physically Talented Veteran Star

The Colorado Avalanche are adding another Makar to the mix. The club announced today that they have signed forward to a one-year, contract through the 2025-26 season.

Top star is coming off a breakout season with the University of Maine, where he posted a career-high 30 points (18 goals, 12 assists) in 38 games. He was tied for the team lead in goals while ranking second in total points, setting new personal bests across the board. His knack for clutch performances was on full display, leading the Black Bears with six game-winning goals. One of the highlights of his campaign came during a dominant midseason stretch from January 18 to February 14, where he registered an eight-point streak (seven goals, one assist) over six games.

His heroics didn’t stop there. Makar delivered five multi-goal performances throughout the season, including his first collegiate hat trick on February 28. He also played a pivotal role in Maine’s Hockey East Championship victory, scoring twice in the title game on March 21 to secure the team’s NCAA Tournament berth. With a strong finishing kick to his collegiate career, Makar wrapped up his NCAA tenure with a total of 52 points (33 goals, 19 assists) in 123 games between Maine and UMass-Amherst.

A Calgary, Alberta native and younger brother of Avalanche star defenseman Cale Makar, Taylor was originally selected by Colorado in the seventh round (220th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. Before his college days, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound forward honed his skills with the Brooks Bandits in the AJHL, recording 61 points (17 goals, 44 assists) over 104 games. Now, with his first professional contract secured, Makar has the opportunity to carve his own path in the Avalanche organization while continuing the family legacy in Denver.
