Cleveland Browns star edge rusher has been one of the most dominant and consistent defensive players in the NFL. However, frustration with the team’s direction has reportedly led him to request a trade this offseason, as he seeks to join a championship contender.
In an interview with ESPN’s NFL Countdown just hours before Super Bowl LIX, top star expressed his concerns about the Browns’ future.
“Speaking with the management at the Browns, I don’t feel like our future is aligned with winning right now,” he said. “And that’s what I’m looking forward to do at this stage of my career.”
The first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, has been a dominant force in Cleveland. He is the only player in the league to record 10 or more sacks in each of the past five seasons. His accolades include a Defensive Player of the Year award and four first-team All-Pro selections in the last five years.
If the Browns grant his trade request, Garrett would instantly become one of the most sought-after players on the market, with several teams likely to pursue the elite pass rusher.
The Cleveland Browns have made every effort to retain star edge rusher Myles Garrett, but it appears he is unwilling to discuss an extension or remain with the team.
According to Mary Kay Cabot, Browns GM Andrew Berry typically meets with agents at the NFL Combine to discuss contracts, but Garrett’s camp—led by agent Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports—has reportedly shut down negotiations entirely.
If Cleveland ultimately decides to move on from Garrett, the Buffalo Bills are expected to be a strong contender for his services. While Buffalo has yet to secure a Super Bowl victory, NFL analyst Mike Fisher believes Garrett won’t be deterred by past shortcomings.
“If Garrett wants his new team to be a Super Bowl contender,” Fisher wrote, “Buffalo obviously is that and should be at the very top of his short list.”
Garrett’s availability would make him one of the most coveted players on the market, and the Bills, eager to add a game-changing pass rusher, could be among the top suitors.
