MAJOR UPDATE: Huskies Land Highly Talented Star From Transfer Portal

Washington’s impressive tradition of wide receiver talent continues as the Huskies add top star to their roster for the 2025 season. The 6-foot, 189-pound wide receiver from Penn State announced his transfer on social media. He has one year of eligibility remaining, brings valuable experience to a young receiver corps following the recent departure of former five-star prospect Johntay Cook II on Jan. 14.

During the 2024 season, he caught 21 passes for 415 yards and five touchdowns, playing a key role in Penn State’s journey to the College Football Playoff semifinals. He started six of 16 games and entered the transfer portal after the Nittany Lions’ narrow 27-24 loss to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. Over three seasons at Penn State, Evans totaled 30 receptions for 564 yards and seven touchdowns.

Originally from Killeen, Texas, Evans was a three-star recruit out of Shoemaker High School, where he excelled as a cornerback and quarterback. He ranked as the No. 77 wide receiver and No. 78 player in Texas during the 2022 recruiting cycle. Evans chose Penn State over a final group that included Vanderbilt and Rutgers and held offers from several Power Five programs, including Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Utah.

In 2024, Evans emerged as a deep-threat weapon in Penn State’s offense, averaging 19.8 yards per catch—the best on the team. He caught 80% of his contested targets and recorded the team’s longest reception of the season, a 59-yard touchdown against Kent State. However, his opportunities were limited by Penn State’s offensive scheme, as he received only 38 targets compared to 135 for tight end Tyler Warren, the John Mackey Award winner.

At Washington, Evans joins a wide receiver group looking to replace two key starters, Giles Jackson and Jeremiah Hunter, who exhausted their eligibility. Evans, with his experience playing on the outside, profiles as a potential replacement for Hunter. He will compete with sophomore Rashid Williams, Hunter’s backup last season, and a talented 2025 recruiting class that includes highly regarded four-star freshmen Deji Ajose, Marcus Harris, Chris Lawson, Dezmen Roebuck, and Raiden Vines-Bright.

With his proven ability as a deep threat, Evans has the tools to make an immediate impact as Washington looks to continue its strong tradition at the wide receiver position.
