Major Update: Alex Bregman Drops Bombshell Amid Third Base Controversy With Rafael Devers

Top star isn’t letting the Red Sox’s third base situation become a distraction. Since signing with Boston last week, Bregman has been met with resistance from longtime third baseman Rafael Devers, who has made it clear he has no intention of giving up his position.

Speaking to reporters at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Fla., he addressed the uncertainty surrounding third base. Rather than dwelling on the situation, he expressed excitement about playing alongside Devers and emphasized that the final decision will be up to manager Alex Cora.

“I’m super excited to just be his teammate,” Bregman told reporters, per WEEI’s Rob Bradford. “He’s a great player. I think everybody in this clubhouse is worried about winning. And whatever it takes to help the team win, that’s all I’m focused on. I’ll play wherever [Alex Cora] tells me to play.”

Defensively, Bregman is widely regarded as the stronger third baseman. However, Devers has remained firm in his stance, believing the Red Sox committed to him at the position when he signed his massive contract extension two years ago.

However, Cora didn’t seem too concerned about possibly reneging on the promise made to Devers if it ultimately benefits the team.
