Just In: Vikings Receive Groundbreaking Update Regarding Aaron Rodgers Saga

The Aaron Rodgers drama is still unfolding, as the four-time MVP has yet to commit to a new team. Following his release from the New York Jets, Rodgers is reportedly a serious contender for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback job. However, whispers around the league suggest he may be more inclined to join the Minnesota Vikings instead.

There’s speculation that Rodgers, now 41, could reveal his decision during Pat McAfee’s event in Pittsburgh on Wednesday—an announcement that would certainly draw attention right before the NFL Draft. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, some insiders believe Rodgers is holding off on a decision to see what the Vikings ultimately do with rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

“Some still believe he’s waiting to see whether the Vikings will decide to pivot from J.J. McCarthy, and that he prefers Minnesota to Pittsburgh,” Florio noted.

Rodgers had also been linked to the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns, but both teams appear to have moved on and are no longer in the running.

At the moment, the Steelers seem to be the only team showing real interest in Rodgers. The Vikings are expected to start McCarthy, whom they selected 10th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. But with McCarthy now sidelined for the season due to injury, Minnesota may consider easing him in and letting him learn from the bench.

Florio also pointed out that retirement remains a possibility for Rodgers. Even if the Steelers sign him, it would likely be a short-term solution. As such, Pittsburgh could still be eyeing a quarterback early in the upcoming draft.

“There’s still a chance [Rodgers will] retire. Will he make a decision before the draft? The Steelers need a young quarterback, with or without him. Besides, coach Mike Tomlin has called training camp the line of demarcation,” Florio said.

Rodgers ended the 2024 season with 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 63.0% completion rate. He started all 17 games for the Jets, who finished with a 5-12 record. New York holds the No. 7 pick in the 2025 draft and has already brought in Justin Fields as Rodgers’ successor.
