The Philadelphia Phillies might not be without their All-Star pitcher for long.
According to Jeremy Trottier of Phillies on SI, citing The Philadelphia Inquirer, Phillies manager Rob Thomson provided a positive update on Suarez’s recovery from his back injury.
“Suárez’s status was recently discussed by manager Rob Thomson, as he stated that the starter ‘felt a lot better today [Thursday]’ and is expected to play catch on Friday,” reported Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer, as relayed by Trottier.
Ranger Suarez’s return to full strength is crucial for the Phillies, especially after injuries hampered his 2024 season. A previous back issue limited him to 27 starts, disrupting what had been a strong start to the campaign.
The Venezuelan left-hander remains a key part of Philadelphia’s rotation. His 3.46 ERA and 145 strikeouts from 2024 will be essential behind Phillies ace Zack Wheeler and All-Star Cristopher Sanchez in the upcoming season.

With just six days until Opening Day, Suarez nearing a return to throwing is an encouraging sign as he works to get back on the mound.
