JUST IN: LSU land intriguing commitment from highly talented championship winner

LSU women’s track and field is adding La’Nica Locker from Hinds Community College, as announced by Head Coach Dennis Shaver.

A native of New Winthorpes, Antigua, Locker will join LSU in the fall, strengthening an already talented women’s sprint squad. Entering her third collegiate season, she will still be just 19 years old when she arrives on campus.

Locker, currently in her second season at Hinds CC, has already made a mark at the NJCAA level, earning a bronze medal in the 100 meters last season. She posted her collegiate-best time of 11.63 seconds (+1.5 m/s) during the prelims of the NJCAA Division I Championships, where she also placed eighth in the 200-meter final.

Her personal best in the 100 meters came at the 2023 NACAC U18 Championships, where she finished third with a time of 11.54 seconds (+1.2 m/s). At the same event, she secured silver in the 200 meters with a time of 23.64 seconds (-0.9 m/s).

In the 200 meters, her lifetime best is 23.58 seconds, recorded at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games. This past season, she came close to that mark with a 23.59-second (+1.0 m/s) finish at the Antiguan Championships, earning a silver medal. She also claimed the 2024 NJCAA Indoor Championship title in the event, running a personal-best 23.59 seconds indoors.

Locker’s top time in the 60 meters came at the 2024 South Alabama Jaguar Invitational, where she won the event with a 7.46-second performance.
