JUST IN: Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau breaks silence on OG Anunoby injury

On Saturday night, the New York Knicks came back down to Earth with a tough home loss against the Los Angeles Lakers. It was a rough outing for stars Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, both of whom struggled to find their rhythm. However, the biggest storyline of the night wasn’t the final score—it was the injury to OG Anunoby.

Anunoby left the game in the second half after suffering a foot injury while attempting to go up for a three-pointer, a shot he ultimately didn’t take. The severity of the injury is still unclear, but it’s a concerning development for the Knicks, who have relied heavily on Anunoby’s two-way presence since his arrival. As the team looks to regroup, all eyes will be on updates regarding his status, as his health could play a pivotal role in the Knicks’ playoff push.

After the game, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau provided an update on OG Anunoby’s injury, and fortunately, the news was more encouraging than initially feared.

“I haven’t talked to medical yet. They just said he wouldn’t be coming back, that he’s got a sprained foot,” Thibodeau said, according to New York Basketball on X (formerly Twitter). The coach also confirmed that X-rays came back negative, ruling out any fractures—a relief for both the team and fans.

Interestingly, Thibodeau noted that Anunoby had been dealing with some discomfort earlier in the game. “He went to get checked for something at the end of the half,” Thibodeau added, suggesting the injury may have been aggravated rather than a sudden incident. While the Knicks will likely proceed with caution, the early signs point to a less severe issue than originally feared, giving hope that Anunoby won’t miss significant time.
