Day 2 of the NFL Combine kicked off with positive news for the Buffalo Bills. Just before GM Brandon Beane addressed local and national media at the event, the team announced a contract extension with wide receiver.
During his media session, Beane discussed the timing of top stars extension, shared his initial impressions of this year’s draft class, and outlined his approach to managing the increased salary cap, among other key topics.
“Mr. Dependable” earns another four years
His four-year extension ensures he remains with the Bills through the 2029 season, avoiding what would have been the final year of his rookie contract. By securing Shakir long-term, Buffalo keeps one of its most reliable offensive weapons and a trusted target for quarterback Josh Allen.

In 2024, Shakir led the team in targets (100), receptions (76), and receiving yards (821) — all career highs for the former fifth-round pick from the 2022 draft. He also recorded a career-best four touchdown receptions and ranked third in the NFL in yards after catch (597) among all pass catchers.
Beane revealed that the team finalized the details of Shakir’s extension early Tuesday morning and is thrilled to keep the 25-year-old receiver in Buffalo for the prime years of his career.
“The guy is a true lunch-pail Buffalonian. I mean, I know he’s not from Buffalo, but he doesn’t say anything—he just shows up every single day. He’s Mr. Dependable, and when the ball’s thrown his way, he usually comes down with it,” Beane said.
Beyond his strong regular season, Shakir led the Bills in receiving during their 2024 postseason run, hauling in 18 catches for 174 yards across three games. His journey from a 2022 fifth-round pick to a reliable, do-it-all playmaker made him an essential part of Buffalo’s offense moving forward.
“This year, year three, we kind of knew how he would fit, and Joe Brady and Josh [Allen] get a lot of credit. But Khalil himself deserves the most. Those guys have been using his strengths to help this offense, and that really contributed to our success,” Beane added.
