Brampton Steelheads forward has agreed to a three-year deal with the Dallas Stars.
Sarnia selected the Toronto native 13th overall in the 2021 OHL Draft, and he has 173 points (96 goals) from 221 OHL games. He has also competed on the international stage, winning a bronze medal with Canada in the 2023 U18 World Championships.
Dallas drafted the 19-year-old 189th overall in the 2023 NHL draft.
MacDonell has 25 goals and 49 points through 40 games this season. A year earlier, he scored career highs for goals (32), assists (30), and points (62). 37 games, leading the team in scoring and proving himself as a versatile forward capable of playing both center and wing. Known for his quick release, strong hockey sense, and tenacity on the forecheck, MacDonell has garnered attention from scouts and analysts alike.

Originally drafted in the third round of the 2023 NHL Draft by Dallas, MacDonell has continued to hone his game in Brampton, earning praise for his leadership and maturity despite his young age. His progression over the past two seasons has cemented his status as one of the most promising prospects within the Stars’ pipeline.
