Alex Bregman is still without a team for the 2025 season, with spring training now less than a month away.
During the offseason, he has been connected to several teams, including the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, and his former team, the Houston Astros.
Bregman reportedly declined a six-year, $156 million offer to rejoin the Astros, as no other long-term contracts appear to have taken shape. As the season’s start approaches, an MLB insider has made a bold prediction about Bregman’s next destination.
MLB insider predicts Alex Bregman will sign with Los Angeles Dodgers
In a surprising prediction shared in a recent ESPN article, MLB insider David Schoenfield suggested that Alex Bregman will sign with the reigning 2024 World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“Why should the Dodgers stop now? If Bregman can’t secure the big deal he’s seeking, the Dodgers could be an unexpected match. Max Muncy becomes a free agent after 2025 and struggles with strikeouts. Hyeseong Kim’s bat profiles more as a utility infielder than an everyday second baseman. Bregman could rotate between second and third base in 2025 before taking over for Muncy in 2026,” Schoenfield wrote.

The Dodgers have essentially built their own version of “The Avengers” over the past two offseasons, adding stars like Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Teoscar Hernandez, Blake Treinen, Tanner Scott, Michael Conforto, and Japanese pitching sensation Roki Sasaki.
FanGraphs projects the Dodgers’ payroll for 2025 at approximately $370 million, significantly exceeding the luxury-tax threshold of $301 million. This puts them in the highest penalty bracket, where they would pay a 110% tax on every dollar over the limit.
Despite this, Schoenfield believes the Dodgers could still afford to sign Bregman. He notes that $49.5 million in contracts will come off the books after the season, with the deals for Conforto, Max Muncy, Chris Taylor, and Miguel Rojas all set to expire.
In MLB news, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel predicts that Alex Bregman could land a six-year, $187 million contract in free agency.
If Bregman signs with the Dodgers, it would be an intriguing development, considering his role on the 2017 Astros team that defeated Los Angeles in the World Series—a title later marred by the Astros’ infamous electronic sign-stealing scandal.
