ESPN reported that Kenley Jansen had agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels officially confirmed the signing.
“OFFICIAL: The Angels have agreed to one-year contracts with RHP Kenley Jansen and INF Yoán Moncada,” the team announced on X.
With Kenley Jansen’s departure, the Red Sox now have a vacancy at the back end of their bullpen—one that could potentially be filled by a multi-time All-Star.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported that two-time All-Star Lance Lynn was drawing interest across MLB as a potential closer. Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer identified Boston as the best fit for the veteran right-hander.
“What makes the Red Sox an interesting fit for Lynn is that they’re one of the only contenders in MLB that lacks a clear answer at closer,” Rymer wrote. “Kenley Jansen was that guy in 2023 and 2024, but he’s in Anaheim now. The role is basically up for grabs, with Liam Hendriks, Aroldis Chapman, and Justin Slaten among those vying for it this spring.”
Lance Lynn has made 364 career appearances, with 340 of them coming as a starter. However, at 37 years old, a transition to the bullpen could help extend his career.
With Kenley Jansen’s departure, signing Lynn could be a logical move for the Red Sox as they look to solidify their late-inning options. After an inconsistent 2023 season split between Los Angeles and Chicago, Lynn rebounded in 2024 with the St. Louis Cardinals, posting a 109 ERA+ over 23 starts.
