Originally a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American in the 2023 class, he first committed to Duke before ultimately signing with Indiana. Ranked as the No. 10 overall prospect and the second-best power forward in his class, he drew offers from top programs like Kansas, North Carolina, Michigan, and UCLA. Standing 6-foot-9 and weighing 222 pounds, he offers a rare combination of size, versatility, and scoring ability. His capability to play both forward spots makes him a valuable asset for teams seeking lineup flexibility.

College Performance and Growth

In his freshman season at Indiana (2023-24), Mackenzie Mgbako averaged 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, shooting 39.5% from the field and 32.7% from three-point range. His performance earned him Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors.

In his sophomore season (2024-25), Mackenzie Mgbako improved his efficiency while maintaining his scoring average at 12.2 points per game. He increased his shooting percentages to 43.7% from the field and 32.9% from three, with a notable jump in his two-point field goal percentage from 45.3% to 52.6%, showcasing a more polished offensive game. Although he took fewer free-throw attempts, he remained reliable from the line, shooting 81.7%.
