Breaking News: UW Lands Three Key Stars In A Shocking Roster Move

Since concluding a tough debut season in the Big Ten, the Washington Huskies men’s basketball program has experienced significant roster turnover.

According to On3.com, seven players have entered the transfer portal in recent weeks: guards Tyler Harris and Mekhi Mason, forwards Wilhelm Breidenbach, Christian King, and Dominique Diomande, center KC Ibekwe, and guard Jase Butler. Butler has since committed to Colorado State, while Diomande is headed to BYU.

Under first-year head coach Danny Sprinkle, the Huskies finished with a 13-18 record, including a 4-16 mark in conference play, which placed them at the bottom of the Big Ten standings.

However, Sprinkle has already begun restocking the roster. Per reports from On3.com and ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Washington has landed three notable transfers: East Tennessee State point guard , Rutgers center Lathan Sommerville, and German forward Hannes Steinbach.

Here’s a breakdown of the newest additions:

• G Quimari Peterson (East Tennessee State):
A 6-foot-1 senior, Peterson was named Southern Conference Player of the Year after a standout season in which he led the league in scoring with 19.5 points per game. He shot 42.2% from three, ranking 17th nationally, and also averaged 3.7 assists and 2.0 steals per contest—leading the conference in both scoring and steals. ETSU finished 19-13 overall and 12-6 in league play.

This will be Peterson’s fourth collegiate stop. He spent the past two seasons at ETSU, starting all 67 games. Before that, he played one season at John A. Logan College (JUCO), where he averaged 13.5 points per game. His college career began at Indiana State in 2021–22, where he played in just four games.

The Scarlet Knights finished the year 15-17 overall and 8-12 in Big Ten play. Sommerville came to Rutgers as a highly touted four-star recruit out of high school.

F Hannes Steinbach (Germany):
Steinbach is a 6-foot-10 forward from Germany, turning 19 next month, and is regarded as one of the top European prospects in his age group, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. Playing in Germany’s premier league, the Bundesliga, he has averaged 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this season for the Würzburg Baskets.
