Breaking News: Red Sox Top Veteran Suffers Unexpected Injury Setback

Boston Red Sox starting shortstop was held out of Tuesday’s spring training game due to mild back tightness, according to the team. Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald provided an update, reporting that manager Alex Cora said Story’s back tightened up while taking ground balls earlier in the day. The expectation is that he will return to the lineup tomorrow.

This appears to be a precautionary move, as Story entered the spring in good health and aimed to bounce back with a productive season. However, Red Sox fans might still feel uneasy given his injury history. Since joining Boston, Story’s time on the field has been limited, appearing in just 163 games over the past three seasons. During that span, he has struggled to find consistency, posting a .232 batting average and a sub-.700 OPS.

Trevor Story has undergone surgeries in each of the last two seasons—an elbow procedure in 2023 and shoulder surgery that cut his 2024 season short. While this latest issue seems minor, it’s understandable that fans remain cautious given his track record.

Despite the concerns, Story remains a crucial piece for the Red Sox in 2025. If he can recapture any of the form he showed with the Colorado Rockies, he could be a game-changer for Boston’s playoff aspirations. In the event of any extended absence, promising prospect Marcelo Mayer could step in, but for now, Story is still the team’s primary shortstop.

Barring any setbacks, Story is expected to play tomorrow, though his health will undoubtedly be closely monitored moving forward.
