Ranger Suárez (Lower Back Stiffness)
Status: On the 15-day injured list; began rehab assignment on Thursday, April 10.
Left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez is sidelined with lower back stiffness, a problem he also faced last season. Taijuan Walker is currently filling his spot in the rotation. In his first rehab outing with Single-A Clearwater, Suárez threw three scoreless innings, striking out four. According to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki, Suárez felt good the following day. The plan is for him to go four innings in his next rehab start, followed by five innings in the outing after that.
Andrew Painter (Tommy John Surgery)
Status: Could make MLB debut this summer
Top Phillies prospect Andrew Painter is targeting a debut around July, according to Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. Painter has not appeared in a regular season game since an elbow injury during spring training in 2023. Assigned to Single-A Clearwater, he’s pitching once a week and made his season debut Friday night, tossing 1 1/3 innings. He gave up two earned runs on two hits, walked one, and struck out three. Of his 37 pitches, 23 were fastballs, with his four-seamer averaging just over 98 mph and topping out at 100 mph.
Weston Wilson (Left Oblique Strain)
Status: On 10-day injured list; rehab assignment began Tuesday, April 8
Weston Wilson was in the running for a bench role with the Phillies before a strained oblique sidelined him. Once healthy, his right-handed bat would provide balance to a lineup that leans left-handed. Wilson began his rehab assignment with Single-A Clearwater on April 8. Position players are allowed a maximum of 20 days for rehab stints. If he completes the assignment without issue, he’ll either return to the major league roster or be sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
