Duke University has announced the departure of head men’s basketball coach Jon Scheyer following the team’s 77-71 loss to Clemson on February 8, 2025. This defeat not only ended the Blue Devils’ impressive 16-game winning streak but also dashed their hopes of securing the top spot in the national rankings.
Scheyer, who took over the coaching reins from the legendary Mike Krzyzewski, led Duke to a 20-3 overall record and a 12-1 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play this season. Despite the team’s strong performance, the recent loss to Clemson, where the Blue Devils were outscored 42-30 in the second half, raised concerns among the university’s athletic leadership.

In the post-game press conference, Scheyer acknowledged the team’s defensive shortcomings, stating, “We just couldn’t get enough stops… our defense just couldn’t get enough stops.”
The university has not yet announced who will assume the head coaching responsibilities for the remainder of the season. As the Blue Devils prepare for their upcoming games, the focus will be on maintaining their strong performance in the ACC and securing a favorable position in the NCAA tournament.
This development marks a significant moment in Duke basketball history, as the program navigates the challenges of leadership transition amidst a competitive season.
