The New York Knicks could realistically acquire Phoenix Suns superstar through a trade if the Suns are eliminated from the 2025 NBA playoffs.
Knicks: Kevin Durant’s asking price may be cheaper now
According to AZ Central’s Duane Rankin (via Jeremy Brener of New York Knicks on SI), the Suns could seek three first-round picks in any potential trade for Kevin Durant:
“Sources told The Republic that the ideal return for a Durant trade would include three first-round picks and a young player as part of a multi-team deal aimed at getting under the second apron,” Rankin reported.
Durant could lift Knicks to NBA Finals in tough East
Since re-emerging as a playoff contender in the 2020-21 season, the Knicks have yet to advance beyond the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Despite upgrading their roster this season, they have yet to secure a win against the East’s top two teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics.
Additionally, with star forward Mikal Bridges experiencing inconsistency in New York, the Knicks may find themselves with a stronger squad that still falls short of reaching the Finals in June.
If that scenario unfolds, the Knicks could leverage three of their four future first-round picks through 2031 as the foundation of a potential trade. The two-time Finals MVP would provide New York with elite scoring ability.

With his championship pedigree, the 15-time All-Star could lead the Knicks on a title run next season. His 26.8 points per game this year indicate that, even at 36, he remains as dominant as ever.
