BREAKING: Baltimore Ravens Officially Cut $70 Million Star from Team

The Baltimore Ravens have officially parted ways with veteran safety, ending a high-profile free-agent signing that ultimately fell short of expectations. He joined the Ravens in 2022 on a five-year, $70 million deal but struggled with injuries and inconsistent play throughout his tenure.

During his first season in Baltimore, he displayed his playmaking ability, leading the team with four interceptions despite missing seven games due to a dislocated wrist. However, injuries continued to plague him, including a torn pectoral muscle in 2023, limiting his availability and impact.

His performance declined further in 2024, leading to his benching in Week 8 as the Ravens’ defense struggled, allowing the most passing yards per game in the league at the time. His coverage issues contributed to the team’s defensive struggles, prompting his replacement by Ar’Darius Washington.

In January 2025, Baltimore restructured Marcus Williams’ contract, reducing his 2025 salary by $9.9 million to facilitate his release and create immediate cap space. This move helped the Ravens prepare for free agency, which begins on March 12.

Now 28, Williams enters free agency with a career stat line of 20 interceptions, 56 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and 469 tackles across 108 games (106 starts) with the Saints and Ravens. Despite recent setbacks, his experience and past success could make him an appealing option for teams looking to strengthen their secondary.

With Williams’ departure, the Ravens are expected to prioritize reinforcing their secondary this offseason. They will likely target starting-caliber safeties and cornerbacks through free agency and the NFL Draft to maintain a competitive defense in 2025.
