Three-time league MVP Mike Trout is entering his 15th MLB season in 2025 as the Los Angeles Angels aim for their first winning record in a decade. Now 33 years old, Trout has struggled with injuries in four of the past five seasons, playing more than 82 games only once since his 2019 MVP campaign—when he hit 40 home runs over 119 games in 2022.
With spring training underway, Trout addressed the media on Monday with significant news: he will be switching positions to help preserve his health and extend his time on the field. “I laid everything out and decided what’s best for me physically is moving to right field,” Trout said. “I like it and I’m going to give it a shot.”
While Trout acknowledged that the move was expected, he also noted that he could still see time in center field and as a designated hitter. “There will be times when I play center, and I’m sure I’ll DH as well,” Trout added. “I just have to be honest with the staff about how I’m feeling. I know they’ll give me days off, but I want to be out there. I just want to play.”

This positional shift underscores Trout’s commitment to staying on the field and contributing to the Angels’ success in the upcoming season.
The Angels kick off their 35-game spring training schedule on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners, with the 2025 regular season set to begin on March 27 on the road against the Chicago White Sox. Barring injury or a change of plans, Mike Trout is now expected to be the Angels’ Opening Day starter in right field.
