Latest: Wolves star drops major hint over permanent exit from club

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ loanee, Goncalo Guedes, has expressed his desire to extend his stay with the renowned Portuguese club, Benfica.

Guedes returned to Benfica on loan during the summer after his previous stint with the club was marred by injury problems. The 26-year-old forward faced a knee injury while back in his home country.

Following his recovery, the decision was made to send him back to Benfica for the 2023/24 season. After regaining his fitness, Guedes managed to get some playing time before the international break and now aims to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup.

In a video released by Mais Futebol, the Molineux forward discussed his journey back to Benfica and his contentment with playing for the club where he made his professional debut in 2014. He conveyed, “I had this idea. I had conversations with the relevant authorities, and it became a possibility.

Our negotiations went smoothly, in the best way, and I was delighted because playing for Benfica always feels like being at home. I’ve spent my entire life here, and I hope, if possible, to stay here for an extended period.”

The duration of Guedes’ stay in Lisbon will largely depend on his performance in Portugal. From the perspective of Wolves, they are hopeful that Guedes will shine and become an enticing prospect for multiple clubs, not limited to Benfica alone.

Since his £27.5 million transfer from Valencia in the summer of 2022, Guedes has made only 18 appearances for Wolves, scoring two goals.

As for Gary O’Neil’s team, they are scheduled to return to action on Saturday when they visit Bournemouth, his former club, in the Premier League.
