Colin Blackwell is no longer on the market. The 31-year-old center has signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Stars for $775,000.00.
Blackwell Started His Career In Nashville and New York
The San Jose Sharks drafted Blackwell in 2011, although he never played for them. Blackwell made his NHL debut in January 2019 with the Nashville Predators. He scored his first NHL goal the following season, his last with the Predators.
Blackwell has signed a two-year contract with the New York Rangers for the 2020-2021 season. Blackwell played 47 games and scored a career-high 12 goals. Following the season, there was talk that the Rangers would safeguard Blackwell from being taken in the 2021 Expansion draft. The Rangers ultimately failed to protect Blackwell. The Seattle Kraken would choose Blackwell.
Blackwell Signs New Contract
In the Kraken’s debut season in the NHL, Blackwell played in 39 games and recorded 17 points. Blackwell, along with veteran defencemen Mark Giordano, was transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2022 trade deadline.
With the Maple Leads, Blackwell received his first taste of postseason action. In the team’s seven-game loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Blackwell appeared in all seven games and scored one goal.
To The Windy City
Blackwell signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks ahead of the 2022-23 season. Blackwell’s sports hernia limited him to 53 games in 2022-23. He wouldn’t return until December 2023.

This Blackwell contract represents his future. Blackwell’s career has not been very outstanding thus far. However, he has league experience and has competed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It will be interesting to see if Blackwell can emerge as something more than just a bottom-six forward. If he succeeds, it will be fantastic for him and his new squad. If he cannot, he can excel as a bottom-six forward, which can be beneficial.
