Georgia defensive lineman Makhi Williams-Lee has set his commitment date. The nose tackle from Atlanta’s Lakeside High School has become a significant target for NC State, which hopes to include him in its 2025 recruiting class. Williams-Lee announced on Instagram that he will reveal his college decision on July 4 at 7 p.m.
Williams-Lee’s recruitment surged in late spring, receiving over ten offers in May alone. He took official visits to NC State from June 7-9, Oklahoma from June 14-16, and Texas Tech from June 21-23, with his final decision expected to be between these three programs. NC State, one of the schools that offered him in May, made a strong impression on the 6-foot-2, 280-pound defender.
“First, all the success they had there,” Williams-Lee stated earlier in June. “Also, the coaching staff.” Coach (Charley) Wiles remains in contact with me. And I’ve seen their history of generating defensive lineman. All of these are reasons I want to visit — and maybe even be a part of it.
Once State made the decision, Wiles, who is an excellent recruiter, worked fast to establish rapport with Williams-Lee. The senior assistant left a positive impact on the Florida State prospect.
“He’s a good guy,” Williams-Lee said in early June. “He always checks on me. And I like his demeanor and his energy. He seems like a very special guy. He’s said he can’t wait for me to get up there, so I’m excited about the visit.
“He’s been recruiting me hard and you can tell he really means what he says. He’s told me he appreciates my get-off and my pace. “He notices me playing nose and edge.”
Williams-Lee, recruited by NC State to play nose tackle, had an impressive junior season with 77 tackles, including 22 for loss and 10 sacks, four quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He is considered a high three-star prospect and the No. 76 defensive lineman in the country by 247Sports.
Currently, NC State has two defensive line commits for its 2025 class: Colby Cronk, a defensive end from Palm Coast (Fla.) Flagler, and Omarian Abraham, a nose tackle from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage.
