The Hawkeye recruiting weekend gets off to a quick start. Lucas Allgeyer, offensive lineman at St. Louis (Mo.) Mary Institute and Country Day School, revealed on Sunday night that he has committed to Kirk Ferentz. George Barnett has received commitments from two offensive linemen today, including three-star Cameron Herron.
Allgeyer paid an official visit to the Hawkeyes this past weekend and was blown away. The Hawkeyes’ recruiting season has been relatively quiet in recent months, but that is about to change.
The St. Louis native is a 6-foot-6, 280-pound three-star defensive lineman who was an All-State pick as a junior, but schools appreciate his physique and offensive potential, where he also played last season at MICDS.
“What a ride!” “This experience has been a tremendous blessing,” Allgeyer remarked on social media. “I’d like to thank everyone involved in this crazy journey, especially God and my family, who have guided me to where I am now. After careful consideration, I am quite pleased to declare that I am fully committed to the University of Iowa.”
“My host for the visit was Gennings Dunker and after hanging out with him and the other offensive linemen, I really got a true impression of the kind of people that play at Iowa,” Allgeyer told 247Sports before to the game.
Impact: Allgeyer is a classic Iowa prospect. It doesn’t matter that he lacks attacking experience. Iowa has developed a reputation for transforming players into anything they deem suitable. The Hawkeyes have a prototype to work with, and Allgeyer fits the template. The 6-foot-6, 260-pounder has the prototypical frame for the Hawkeyes’ preferred offensive tackle position.
Iowa has a lot of veteran experience on the offensive line, but they are confidence in the newcomers who will join the team in the coming years. Allgeyer’s agility, adaptability, and knowledge of defense should help him fit well with George Barnett’s offensive line. There will be no immediate pressing need for Allgeyer to make an impact, but his upside provides Iowa with a variety of tools that they should be thrilled to work with.
“Hardworking, disciplined, tough, and loyal people,” Allgeyer described his new teammates after visiting Iowa. “I think just that is one of the reasons that Iowa sticks out to me among other schools,”
