Vincent Kompany makes Burnley relegation assessment ahead of PL return

Vincent Kompany is sure that Burnley’s forthcoming matchups will result in more points for his team.
The Clarets are in the bottom three of the Premier League after eight games and four points.

However, Kompany’s men have been hampered by a difficult schedule that has included games against Manchester City, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Chelsea.

Following this weekend’s trip to Brentford, the matches begin to look friendlier, at least on paper, with games against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace on the horizon.

Kompany is hoping that the current run of games will lift the Clarets out of the relegation zone, but he insists it is too early to be focusing on the table.

“I don’t spend a lot of time looking at the league.” Sure, I look at the fixtures. “However, I recognize that our first eight games were against teams such as Chelsea,” he continued.

Vincent Kompany: 'I don't know which one but Burnley has the next £100m footballer'

“We got four points out of six against [Nottingham] Forest and Luton, which were the only games against teams against whom we needed to win.”

“It would be nice to look at these types of games now and see what happens.” With the upcoming fixtures, we’ll have more games like the ones we had against Forest and Luton, where we actually had a chance before the ball was kicked.”

Kompany has also admitted that a gap is emerging between himself and some of the league’s bigger and better clubs, but believes it is too early to predict who sides they will face in the quest for survival.

“It’s difficult for me to say who should and shouldn’t be in that minileague.” “Only time will tell,” he concluded.

“But from what I can tell, there’s a gap to some of the squads we’ve faced in terms of the Tottenham squad, the Villa squad, they have powerful squads in every way.”It’s something to strive for; I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it will take time for teams like ours to get there.

“There are a cluster of teams like ourselves who are just trying to close that gap but every game is another game and you always have a chance, irrespective of what a team has spent.”
