Tennessee women’s golf coach Diana Cantú signed transfers Leighton Shosted and Sophie Bierstorfer on Thursday afternoon.
“I am excited to welcome Sophie and Leighton to the Lady Vol golf family,” Cant stated. “They are an excellent addition to our team. Both of them are competitive and enthusiastic about making their mark at Tennessee.The duo injects energy and enthusiasm into this show. “They will do an excellent job representing us!”
Shosted, an entering senior at Grand Canyon University, has an adjusted scoring average of 73.32 during the 2023-24 season.
In addition, the Mesa, Arizona, native finished in the top ten six times last season, including second place at the Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational and third at the White Sands Collegiate.
Shosted spent two seasons at Utah Valley before joining GCU. Shosted set Utah Valley’s single-season scoring record in her sophomore year, shooting par or better on eight rounds. Shosted was named to the All-WAC Second Team as a freshman and won the UTRGV Invitational individual championship.
“Leighton’s experience is going to be great for our team,” stated Cant. “She has established herself at both schools where she has competed, consistently placing first. She enjoys competing and making lots of birdies. Rocky Top is an excellent location to help her prepare for professional golf as she enters her last university season.”
Bierstorfer, an upcoming sophomore from Miami, competed in three tournaments during her rookie season and averaged 73.90 points.
Bierstorfer shot a 1-under 71 in the second round of the 2024 Gators Invitational, the best round by a freshman in the event.
Prior to her undergraduate career, Bierstorfer competed for the Italian National Team and won the U16 Italian Match Play Championship.
“I’ve known Sophie since she was a junior golfer,” Cant stated. “She’s athletic and strong. She is mature and driven to succeed in Tennessee.
