Breaking: Oregon State lands commitment for another top player

Oregon State has acquired anther top transfer who led Mesa Community College to third in NJCCA Division II, to the 2024-25 roster.

Shivers led the Thunderbirds to four tournament victories, including a 60-48 win over CCBC Essex, in which she scored 28 points on 7-of-18 shooting and 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. In March, she averaged a season high 16 points, 3.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.

“We are glad Mackenzie Shivers chose to become a Beaver,” Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck remarked. “Mackenzie is a real point guard who can create offense for herself and others, and she played some of her finest basketball during the tournament.

She has a tendency for making big shots in big occasions, thanks to her long range and rapid release. Mackenzie is also an effective point of attack defender. “She is an excellent addition to our team and community.”
“I chose Oregon State because of Coach Rueck and his coaching staff,” Shivers stated. “They really believe in the family culture. Oregon State will not only help me improve as a player, but it will also present me with several chances in the future, and I could not be more excited to be a part of this program.”

Shivers finished her second year at Mesa CC second on the team in points per game (10.9), assists per game (3.3), and three-point shooting (34.9).

She was chosen second-team All-Arizona College Athletic Conference and second-team All-Region.

Shivers started 25 games as a freshman for the Thunderbirds before a season-ending injury in February. She averaged 11.6 points, 3.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. Mesa CC was 18-7 with Shivers in the lineup and 2-3 without her at the point.

Shivers is the Beavers’ sixth addition this offseason, joining Lucia Navarro, Catarina Ferreria, and Tiara Bolden. The Beavs also signed two international freshmen, Danish center Elisa Mehyar and Spanish guard Cloe Vecina.
