A top player has stated on social media that he would transfer to Utah, addressing a critical need for the Runnin’ Utes.
Ausar also sent a message announcing his commitment, which included photos of him posing with Utah head coach Craig Smith.
“Tired of being comfortable and being around complacency,” wrote Ausar. “To all young black males dealing with the complications of life and mental health, realize that your strength is undeniable. Remember that true courage entails acknowledging when you need help.
“Embrace your feelings, talk openly about your challenges, and understand that it’s okay to be unhappy. You don’t fight alone. Our well-being prepares the way for a more promising, empowered future. Keep moving forward, and never underestimate your own ability and potential. “The streets are not for everyone.”
According to 247 Sports, Ausar, who stands 6-foot-9 and weighs 240 pounds, is a four-star transfer prospect with a 0.9200 player rating and the portal’s 20th-best power forward. He accessed the transfer site on April 1.
Ausar is projected to be the frontrunner to start at the four for Utah, which is looking for an inside scoring punch when Branden Carlson’s illustrious Utes career ends.
Ausar started 24 of the 32 games he played for East Carolina this season and 20 of 32 as a freshman the previous year.
He averaged 11.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assists a game for the Pirates in 2023-24, shooting 51.4% from the field. Ausar made 130 of 199 free throws (65.9%) last year, leading the team.
He will have two years of eligibility and one redshirt year remaining.
Ausar is Utah’s fifth transfer this season, joining guards Mason Madsen and Miro Little and post men Keanu Dawes and Zach Keller.
The Utes still have four unfilled scholarships for the 2024-25 season, their first in the Big 12 Conference.
