Breaking: Auburn Quarterback Lands Commitment With Another Team

The former Auburn and Alabama State quarterback, Dematrius Davis, has found a new home in the FBS.

Davis has committed to the University of Texas at San Antonio, according to his social media accounts.

Davis was a Texas high school legend who attended Galena Park North Shore High School. He accumulated 13,583 total yards of offense – 10,536 via the air and 3,047 on the ground – and 171 touchdowns over a four-year period that saw North Shore win state championships in 2018 and 2019, and Davis post a 51-3 record as a starting quarterback.

Davis was rated as the 24th best quarterback in the 2021 class and the 35th best prospect in Texas.

He had offers from Florida State, Boston College, Baylor, Arkansas, Arizona State, Virginia Tech, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, and nearly every other Power Five college. He did, however, choose Auburn and will begin classes in January 2021.

Dematrius Davis, who started 54 games in high school, found himself on the bench for Auburn in 2021, which was an unexpected situation. He was anticipated to compete for the starting quarterback position in spring, but Auburn added two quarterbacks through the transfer portal and a fresh four-star. Davis saw the written on the wall and decided it was time for a change.

He eventually arrived at Alabama State, where he spent the last two seasons. He played and started nine games in his first full-time season after transferring from Auburn University. He was voted MVP of the MEAC-SWAC Challenge after completing 16 out of 23 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown.

Davis appeared in five games in 2023 and completed 42 of 61 throws for 413 yards and three touchdowns. Davis, however, finished the season on the bench and entered the transfer portal.

“Thank you ASU, for allowing a kid from Houston, TX to have his first taste of college football, become a better man and more educated,” Davis stated in the statement. “I want to thank Coach Eddie Robinson and Coach James Williams for believing in me from the beginning to the end. Thank you to the trainers who helped me when I was bruised. With two years of eligibility remaining, I’ve opted to apply through the transfer portal.

He will now take his talents to San Antonio.
