The Carolina Panthers are continuing to make changes to their defensive coaching staff. On Friday, sources informed The Observer that the team has parted ways with assistant defensive backs coach. The former Pro Bowl cornerback, was brought in by former head coach Frank Reich during the 2023 offseason. Despite Reich’s brief tenure with the team, Hall was retained by new head coach Dave Canales as part of defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero’s staff for 2024. Hall primarily worked with the cornerbacks, including Pro Bowler Jaycee Horn.
DeAngelo Hall’s departure is part of a broader shakeup. Following the 2024 season, safeties coach Bert Watts, outside linebackers coach Tem Lukabu, and defensive quality control coach Bobby Maffei were all let go. Offensive passing game coordinator Nate Carroll has also been dismissed, according to sources. However, as The Observer reported earlier, the Panthers are planning to hire AC Carter, assistant defensive line coach for the Los Angeles Rams, as their new outside linebackers coach.

A coaching source who previously worked with Carter described him as a “dynamic” and “high energy” coach, well-suited for Evero’s system, where outside linebackers and defensive linemen play similar roles. Additionally, the team is expected to bring in former NFL safety Renaldo Hill in an undisclosed position. Hill, a former defensive backs coach and ex-defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, didn’t coach in the NFL last year.
