Jedd Fisch and his staff received more good news today when Cameron Broussard, a transfer safety from Sacramento State, committed to UW after visiting campus a few weekends ago. Broussard, a three-star defensive back from Folsom High School in California, was a top target for Michigan during the 2020 recruiting season. He still has one year of eligibility. He appeared in ten games, largely as a substitute, in 2021 before starting the bulk of games at strong safety for Sac State the previous two seasons.
Last season, Broussard was selected first-team All-Big Sky after recording 73 total tackles, two interceptions, and seven PDs. According to Pro Football Focus, Broussard missed only 4.1% of his tackles. Last year, Kam Fabiculanan topped the Huskies in that area with 9.1% among regular contributors. Broussard saw less opposition, but with the transition to the Big Ten, he adds another consistent tackler to the Huskies’ secondary.
Broussard is listed at 6’3″ and 200 pounds, so he has good size and should be able to crack the rotation in the safety room right away. He is Washington’s second 6’3″ safety prospect signed through the portal in recent weeks, joining Oklahoma transfer Justin Harrington. The Huskies return Fabiculanan and Makell Esteen, who were the starting safeties in spring ball, but Broussard has a good opportunity to start or at least feature substantially into the safety rotation in the fall.
