BYU Could Land Commitment For Another Top Player

4-star 2024 points Elijah Crawford revealed his decision to leave Stanford on Wednesday afternoon.

Why is this relevant to BYU? Brandon Dunson, a new BYU coach and former Stanford assistant, played a significant role in Crawford’s dedication to the Cardinal during his time there. With a new coaching staff in place at Stanford, it was logical for Crawford to consider his alternatives.

Crawford, a 6-foot-1 point guard, signed with Stanford in November as part of the 2023 recruiting class. Crawford is a 4-star recruit according to ESPN and 247 Sports composite rankings. Crawford has publicly expressed his respect for Dunson, and Dunson was the primary assistant in his recruiting.

Crawford received offers from Ole Miss, LSU, Georgia, SMU, South Carolina, UCF, Mississippi State, Xavier, and other schools.

It’s clear why BYU is a viable alternative in this situation. BYU has five scholarships to fill, and Dunson has a lengthy history with Crawford. If Crawford commits to BYU, he will be the seventh-highest ranked pledge in school history, according to 247’s composite rankings.

On the floor, Crawford would be able to make an early impact if he chooses BYU. He is a true point guard who could not only serve as Dallin Hall’s backup, but also play alongside him in the backcourt. In the NBA, Kevin Young shown his ability to play both point guard positions at the same time.

Elijah would provide BYU with another playmaker and scoring option who can score off the dribble from the three-point line or attack the basket.
Crawford will have other options, but his bond with Dunson should give BYU a decent shot in this situation.
