Chris Rodesch, a member of the University of Virginia men’s tennis team, will miss the rest of the 2024 tournament due to illness. The Virginia Cavaliers, two-time defending NCAA champions, are currently in the quarterfinals.
Rodesch, a Luxembourgish tennis player, is now rated 643 in the world and has won two championships on the ITF Futures Tour in singles and doubles.
He also plays for Lexumburg in the Davis Cup, where he has a 6-4 record.
The 22-year-old presently plays for the University of Virginia, which won the NCAA championships in 2022 and 2023 and aims for a third consecutive title.
They are seeded third in the championships and will face Wake Forest in the quarterfinals.
Rodesch, a four-year team member, will miss the 2024 NCAA Tournament owing to illness, causing a significant setback for the two-time defending champs. Alex Gruskin, a notable collegiate tennis podcaster, shared the news on X (previously Twitter).

Here’s how the Virginia Cavaliers men’s tennis team has performed in the 2024 NCAA finals.
The 2024 NCAA Championships saw the two-time defending champions defeat VCU 4-0, with Jefferey von der Schulenberg, Chris Rodesch, and Mans Dahlberg all winning in straight sets. Despite significant difficulties in their doubles match, they won the tiebreaker 8-6 and swept VCU.
In the Round of 16, the Cavaliers struggled against South Carolina, dropping their doubles in a tense three-set match.
Virginia won the tie 4-1 thanks to wins by Dahlberg, Inka Montes, Dylan Dietrich, and Von der Schulenberg in singles. They will now face sixth-seed Wake Forest in the quarterfinals.
If they win their match against Wake Forest, the Virginia Cavaliers will face the winner of the tie between second-seed Texas and seventh-seed Kentucky. The top eight seeds remain in the draw.
The quarterfinals will begin on Thursday, May 16th, followed by the semifinals on May 18th and the summit battle on May 19th.
