UW Football: Huskies confirm the departure of another top star

Tybo Rogers, the Washington running back who was arrested and accused with rape in two separate incidents

believed to have occurred during the 2023 season, has left the program, according to an ESPN representative.

Following Rogers’ arrest on April 5, the team suspended him. Rogers, 19, has been charged with second- and third-degree rape for incidents involving two women in October and November. He pled not guilty to the accusations last month.

The first alleged rape took place in late October at the apartment of a 19-year-old Seattle Central College student, who reported it to Seattle police on Oct. 28. The second encounter occurred between Rogers and a 22-year-old Washington student whom he met at a Halloween party.

The alleged attack happened in the female student’s apartment, and she reported it to Washington’s Title IX office on November 28.

Washington suspended Rogers from team activities in late November and did not place him on the travel roster for the Pac-12 championship game in Las Vegas on December 1, according to a Seattle police detective’s certification of probable cause paperwork.

The paper also identified many emails within Washington’s athletic administration suggesting that Rogers should not accompany the team to the championship game, but the communications provided no reasons for the removal or potential sanctions.

The detective also referred to text communications from Washington staff personnel about Rogers and what was happening with him. The interactions occurred immediately after the Washington student reported the alleged assault to the Title IX office and posted about it on her Instagram account, urging others to be cautious around Rogers.

In mid-December, Ryan Grubb, the team’s offensive coordinator at the time, told writer Dan Raley of Dailymotion that Rogers was dealing with some off-field concerns and could not say further. Grubb, head coach Kalen DeBoer, and athletic director Troy Dannen have all since left Washington to assume new positions.

Rogers returned to the squad for the College Football Playoff semi-finals and national championship games, totaling six rushing attempts. He concluded the season as the team’s third-leading rusher.

Rogers and fellow Washington player Diesel Gordon were charged last month with allegedly beating a cyclist during a road rage incident in March.

According to a police report obtained by KOMO News, Rogers and Gordon yelled at the guy to leave the street, and when he ran to a nearby stairwell to hide, they “hit him and pushed him down, damaging his bicycle, before leaving.” Washington suspended Gordon in early April, and he is no longer on the club.
