One NBA writer advocated a trade between the Miami Heat and the Phoenix Suns this summer.
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report offered the following deal between the Heat and Suns:
Miami Heat Receives: SG. Bradley Beal
Phoenix Suns Receive: PG. Terry Rozier, F Duncan Robinson, G/F Josh Richardson, 2026 second-round selection (via the Los Angeles Lakers)
Despite possessing Beal, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker, the Phoenix Suns were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Heat are trailing 3-1 to the Boston Celtics.
This season, Beal averaged 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists for the Suns, shooting 51.3% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc, and 81.3% from the foul line.
Beal’s deal includes a no-trade provision. He will earn $50.2 million next season and $53.7 million in 2025-26.
Last summer, the Heat attempted to get Beal, and he was willing to waive his no-trade clause in order to join Miami.
“Despite that, the Miami Heat stand out as a potential trade partner, especially since the Heat finished the regular season ranked only 21st overall in offensive rating and could use Beal’s scoring and playmaking,” Swartz stated in an email. “Beal would join a core of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and others without Miami giving up any future first-round picks.”
Beal averaged 16.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in the Suns-Timberwolves series, shooting 44.1% from the field, 43.5% from three, and 80.0% from the line. He struggled on defense when defending Minnesota great Anthony Edwards.
“For Phoenix, this would be a way of getting off Beal’s contract while slightly trimming the payroll (roughly $2.8 million in savings) and adding three starters/rotation players around Durant and Booker,” Swartz wrote in an email. “Rozier (19.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 36.3 percent from three) could take over Beal’s starting backcourt place while earning less than half the salary, while Robinson (12.9 points, 39.5 percent from three) would help keep the floor open for the stars to operate.
“This trade would require Beal’s blessing since he possesses a no-trade clause, and Richardson would need to pick up his $3.0 million player option for next season.”
Beal, who turns 31 in June, has career averages of 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists with the Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns.Th
