Bills Coach Leaving Buffalo After Losing to Chiefs in AFC Championship

The Kansas City Chiefs will play in the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season after defeating the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game. The Chiefs have ended the Bills’ last two seasons.

Last year, the Chiefs defeated the Bills in Buffalo in the divisional round, and this year, the Bills lost the AFC championship game. If last week’s loss to the Chiefs wasn’t awful enough for Bills fans, the team needs a new defensive coach.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, the New England Patriots are set to employ Scott Booker, the Buffalo Nickels’ coach/senior defensive assistant.

Booker will reunite with Mike Vrabel in New England, where he is the Patriots’ head coach.
Booker joined the Bills this summer following six years with the Tennessee Titans. Booker worked primarily with Buffalo’s nickel/slot cornerbacks, including Taron Johnson, Ja’Marcus Ingram, and Brandon Codrington.

The Chiefs didn’t attack Johnson much in the AFC championship game, allowing only two receptions on three targets for 25 yards. However, Mahomes targeted former first-round choice Kaiir Elam, who allowed three receptions on five targets for 36 yards.

Overall, the Bills’ secondary had no answer for Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who had a game-high six receptions (seven targets) for 85 yards and one score.

These two teams are slated to face off in the 2025 season, which will be a highly anticipated battle in Mahomes’ famous rivalry with Josh Allen. As a result, it will be intriguing to see who the Bills hire to replace Brooks, as Buffalo’s secondary will continue to be taxed by Mahomes and the Chiefs’ passing offense.
