The Buffalo Bills are likely to target a wide receiver in the NFL Draft, and they may not be satisfied with picking No. 28.
On April 23, NFL reporter Benjamin Allbright stated that the Bills are considering an aggressive move up the board in the first round to get one of the best wide receivers. This year’s wide receiver draft is seen to be particularly deep, but the Bills’ pick late in the first round is likely to be out of reach of the top three talents.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane may be planning to modify that, according to Allbright on X.
Bills Moving Up Again
Beane has not been afraid to go up in the first round, rising up the board in either of the last two seasons. Many expect the Bills to move up again to target a wide receiver, filling a vacuum left by the trade of Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans and the departure of No. 2 receiver Gabe Davis in free agency.
There have been differing opinions on how far up the board the Bills could advance this season. In a mock draft released on April 16, Rob Maaddi of The Associated Press suggested that the Bills may move all the way up to the fourth overall pick to get top wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic expected that the Bills will trade up, albeit not as high. He projected that Beane will trade up to the seventh overall pick to get LSU pass-catcher Malik Nabers.
Buscaglia also believed that the Diggs trade would prompt the Bills to make a more dramatic move in the first round.
“I continue to believe that anything, including a deal like this one on draft day, is a genuine possibility for the Bills,” Buscaglia said. “[Bills general manager Brandon] Beane has traditionally been an aggressive draft-day trading when he’s excited about a player and how he fits into their scheme. With a gaping hole for a top wide receiver and the Bills’ current position, this is the type of move Beane could justify as putting them over the top for the foreseeable future.
Other observers have advised that the Bills keep their No. 28 overall pick and look for a wide receiver in the following tier of players.
Brandon Beane Has Other Plans
Speaking to reporters shortly after the Diggs deal, Beane stated that the Bills might still add to their wide receiver corps through free agency. He mentioned that roster changes following the NFL Draft may leave some senior players available, providing the Bills an opportunity to make additions.
“There are still veterans out there. “We’ll still look to see if there’s anyone who fits,” he stated. “And then we’ll do the same, we’ll grade our draft board, put it up there, put them in the order we see them if you’re talking about just the receiver position.”
The Bills have already signed speedy veteran Curtis Samuel through free agency.
