Newcastle United chiefs ready to hijack “amazing” star from rich rivals

He could be Wilson’s replacement.
After failing to finish in the Premier League’s top four for the second consecutive season, Newcastle United are apparently ready to focus on the summer transfer window, when they might pounce on a player Chelsea is presently pursuing.

Newcastle transfer news

After previously walking a narrow line with Financial Fair Play regulations, rumors have circulated about prospective exits from St James’ Park this summer, with Bruno Guimaraes at the center of it. According to reports, the Brazilian is anticipated to depart Newcastle this summer, with Manchester City and other clubs keen in signing him, despite the fact that he recently purchased a home on Tyneside.

It would be a huge blow to lose a player of Guimaraes’ caliber, but his departure would give PIF more leeway to spend in the coming months, culminating in some much-needed improvement for Eddie Howe’s team.

After a forgettable summer transfer window last year, with Sandro Tonali making headlines for all the wrong reasons since his move, the Magpies will look to make amends, which might include the arrival of a top forward.

According to Sports Lens, PIF and Newcastle bosses are waiting for an opportunity to hijack Chelsea’s summer bid for Ivan Toney, who is expected to cost between £55 million and £60 million in the coming months.

It would be a full circle moment for Toney, who departed Newcastle as a failed Premier League player in 2018 following many loan periods elsewhere.

Toney, who is now an England international and in high demand, might return to St James’ Park to form the ideal partnership with Alexander Isak, potentially displacing Callum Wilson.

Toney has already shown glimpses of his quality since returning from a lengthy sentence for breaking betting regulations, and a full pre-season would certainly see him return to his peak form. If anyone needs a reminder of what the best looks like, only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane scored more than Toney’s 20 Premier League goals last season.

Given that Wilson is still dealing with injuries and isn’t getting any younger, Newcastle should act now to get the most out of Isak by bringing in a new partner to lead the line.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank will be well aware of the type of player he is likely to lose this summer, having previously stated on the club’s official website: “Ivan is fantastic in many, many facets.

“His ability to deal with pressure and distractions is incredible. He has been scoring goals, performing for the team, and leading the team. He is extraordinary. I can just speak about the Ivan I see every day around the company, and he’s a terrific member of the group. He has the unique emotional intelligence to be aware of all the players and staff members.
