Buccaneers Brought In Highly Touted SEC Wide Receiver For Pre-Draft Visit

South Carolina’s Xavier Legette has been on the radar of several NFL teams.
Certain prospects are in high demand throughout draft season, even if they are not regarded first-round picks. One of those guys is South Carolina’s Xavier Legette, who has met with many NFL teams.

Legette informed The Draft Network in an interview that he met with 14 organizations during his pre-draft process, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Legette is unlikely to be a first-round choice, but he could be considered in the later stages by clubs seeking for a wide receiver.

Legette is ranked as a Day 2 player in The Draft Network’s scouting report. Legette’s agility and strong contested catch skills are highlighted in the study, but he has minimal output for a five-year senior, a small route tree, and a lack of run-blocking ability. His one year of performance came last year, when he caught 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven scores for the Gamecocks.

However, the Bucs provide a another layer of intrigue. Tampa Bay just signed Bryan McLendon as their wide receivers coach, having previously developed wideouts at the University of Georgia. He previously worked with South Carolina in 2019, thus he is familiar with Legette. If the Buccaneers choose him, they could reunite.

Tampa Bay recently signed Mike Evans to a two-year agreement, but he is getting older, and Chris Godwin may go next offseason. If that is the case, the Bucs will want to protect the future at wideout, and Legette may be the answer.

Is this Mike Evans' last season as a Buc?
