Ipswich Town to complete deal for highly-experienced European star

According to Gunebakis writer Ezgi Alp, Rangers player John Lundstram is expected to join Ipswich Town on a free transfer at the end of the season.

On 18 April, the reporter for the Turkish news outlet claimed on her personal X account that Trabzonspor are interested in signing the 30-year-old midfielder, but it appears that English Championship leaders Ipswich have gotten ahead of the Super Lig club.

Lundstram’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but it was expected that the midfielder would agree to prolong his stay at Ibrox after becoming a crucial player under Philippe Clement this season.

According to the source, Championship promotion-chasers Ipswich have won the race for his signature, beating out interest from Turkish club Trabzonspor, who were hesitant due to the player’s £32,000-a-week (£1.7 million-a-year) wage demands.

Rangers set to lose John Lundstram?

As the Gers’ season, which had begun so brilliantly, threatens to come crumbling down following a succession of poor performances, things appear to be getting worse with the news that Lundstram may be leaving.

The 30-year-old central midfielder has been a reliable presence for Clement, appearing almost constantly in the middle of the pitch and being a regular in the side. In fact, he is one of only four players at the club who have played more than 4,000 minutes in all competitions. For comparison, John Souttar, who is sixth on the list, has played more than 1,000 minutes less than Lundstram.

It is evident, then, that Clement would prefer not to lose one of his important players for nothing, and it was expected that he would sign a new contract. However, it appears like Ipswich have gotten ahead of the competition, and if Lundstram leaves, he will leave a large vacuum to fill – with no transfer fee to help speed things up.
