Breaking: Yankees now landing spot for future Hall of Fame player

The New York Yankees are off to one of baseball’s finest starts, sitting 13-6 and leading the American League.

The team could be seeking to improve even more, as they are an early favorite to bring up in trade talks.

One athlete who has lately been mentioned is St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. According to Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly, the Yankees are a potential landing site for the future Hall of Fame player.

Goldschmidt is on a cold spell right now, but he would be an excellent addition to almost any competitive club. The best case for signing the 36-year-old to the team is that he would still be an immediate upgrade over veteran Anthony Rizzo.

Rizzo has been steadily declining in New York, and there are little signs that he will recover. His on-base plus slugging rating has dropped to.620, the lowest since his rookie season with the San Diego Padres.

Goldschmidt was still playing at a high level as recently as last season, having won the Most Valuable Player Award in 2022. History suggests that he should be on the rise, even if he does not return to being a.300 hitter this season.

It’s also possible that Goldschmidt needs a change of scenery. The veteran doesn’t have much to play for on a squad that isn’t expected to compete in one of baseball’s most difficult divisions.

If Goldschmidt wants to make a World Series run, the Yankees appear to be a good fit. It could be the clincher for his Hall of Fame candidacy.

Even if the Yankees do not seek to trade for Goldschmidt, it is not surprising that they will look for a different replacement for Rizzo.
