Three games left – so here’s who supercomputer predicts will get automatic promotion

According to supercomputer forecasts, Ipswich Town’s prospects of automatic promotion to the Premier League have increased significantly.

With three games remaining, the Blues lead the Championship and appear to be locked in a three-way battle for the top two slots.

Leicester City is a point behind Town with a game in hand, while Leeds United is two back after playing the same number of games.

Both Leicester and Leeds lost last weekend, and the Opta supercomputer now predicts that Town will rise in its most recent models.

Analysts wrote on the Opta website: “According to the Opta supercomputer, Leicester’s chances of promotion have taken a slight hit, but they remain favourites, with an 85.7% chance of going up.”

“Not bad for a squad that has lost three out of its previous five games. For the time being, their victories over Leeds and Ipswich will most certainly help them keep their favourites status.

“Leeds have taken a bigger hit because their loss occurred at home. Daniel Farke’s men’s chances of getting up have reduced from 59.3% to 42.7%.

“Ipswich take most of those percentage points themselves as the Tractor Boys rise up from 50.8% to 64.2% for a top-two finish.”

The same analysts caution ‘not to sleep on Southampton.’ They defeated Preston 3-0 on Tuesday night and will play three more games before facing Hull City on Saturday, April 27 (8pm).

Leeds, Southampton, West Brom, and Norwich are now predicted to make the play-offs, while Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town, like Rotherham, are expected to be relegated.
