Giorgio Furlani has denied that AC Milan is in contact with Joshua Zirkzee, but Fabrizio Romano has indicated that negotiations are underway to recruit the striker.
With Olivier Giroud out of contract in the summer and likely on his way to Los Angeles FC, Milan’s management will need to find a new centre-forward who can lead the team for years to come.
Many names have been suggested, ranging from Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres to Santiago Gimenez and Victor Boniface, but one name that has withstood is Zirkzee.
The Dutchman is having a breakout season in Serie A, despite recently experiencing a scoring slump in terms of open play goals, and more information on the pursuit has been released.
According to Fabrizio Romano’s tweet, Milan’s CEO Giorgio Furlani has confirmed that there are no ongoing conversations for the Joshua Zirkzee transaction. Even if there were negotiations, I wouldn’t tell you!”
However, he continues, “Behind the scenes, AC Milan had contacts for Zirkzee, and he remains on the list as one of the potential main targets this summer.”
Given news that Arsenal scouted the former Bayern Munich player over the weekend, it appears that there will be fierce rivalry to sign him.
