Done deal: Newcastle United complete first summer transfer

Newcastle have signed one player before the transfer window has even opened.

Newcastle United have already made a permanent deal ahead of the summer transfer window, which does not start until June 14.

Newcastle’s 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday makes it mathematically impossible for them to finish lower than 14th in the Premier League this season.

This implies that Lewis Hall, who spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Chelsea, will now join the club permanently this summer. Earlier this season, reports stated that the 19-year-old needed to make a particular number of appearances before an obligation to buy clause would take effect.

That, however, has been disproven, with Hall’s move contingent on Newcastle’s Premier League performance. The youthful full-back will now join the club for £28 million, which Eddie Howe’s side will pay when the transfer market opens.

Hall is definitely looking forward to making the move permanent, stating that the club’s goal and trajectory make him optimistic about the future.

“I am here now as a Newcastle player and I really enjoy it,” Hall said in a statement. “The club’s future appears quite promising, with so many young and skilled players. It’s headed in the correct direction.

Hall came on against Tottenham on Saturday, making his 16th appearance in all competitions for Newcastle. Though Hall has only started six of those games, Howe has already claimed that it will take some time for him to adjust to his tactical processes, giving the young full-back time to develop away from the spotlight of the Premier League.
