Lamar Jackson Receives Clear Message From Derrick Henry Ahead of Ravens’ April Kick-Off

The Baltimore Ravens fell one game short of claiming the Lombardi Trophy. To spice things up, they rearranged their roster and added RB Derrick Henry to it. Before that, Henry reportedly sought a collaboration with the Dallas Cowboys, where he had been for some time. However, as luck would have it, the RB joined the Ravens.

Henry went to The Rich Eisen Show, and the talk between them was stimulating. The two talked about Henry’s future plans with the Ravens, as well as what it would be like to play with two-time MVP Lamar Jackson. It’s reasonable to say that the running back is devoted to the act and will bring his A-game to the field.

The stalwart reporter initially spoke with Henry how he was considering joining the Dallas Cowboys, but he did not do so. The discussion went to hypothetical scenarios of what the RBs’ first game with Lamar Jackson would be like. Eisen asked Henry, “You’re standing next to Lamar Jackson, pre-snap, what are you thinking?”

The former OPOY was enthused by the thought of playing alongside Jackson. “I’ll just inform 8, and Lee, I’ll be right following you. Um, this is his team; I’m just coming in to try to improve it in any way I can, um, do my job the best way I know how, um, help the offense, um, just try to be an extra piece to get us over the hump and maybe compete for the big one,” Henry said.

He went on to say, “But I know that um you got to put the work in first starting in the off-season and um I’m the new guy of block so got to earn that respect from those guys who’ve been there who put the work in and um who’s helped establish that culture while they’ve been there as well.”

Earlier in the meeting, the RB expressed a desire to play for the Ravens, mostly because the Baltimore club prefers to run the ball more than most, potentially making him a key member of the offense. But even before signing with the Ravens, he had a desire to play beside Lamar Jackson.

Even before signing a two-year, $20 million contract with the Ravens, Henry had high expectations for Lamar Jackson. The All-Pro said he considered playing with Lamar Jackson and the Ravens for a while. He had a few things to say about attending the initial press conference.

“I’ve definitely thought about it,” Henry remarked, adding, “[Lamar Jackson] is one of the finest, if not the best, players in the league. I’ve had respect for him since he first entered the league, with his body of work and what he’s accomplished, and I also appreciate this organization.”

As the Ravens approach the offseason, a new three-phase schedule is already available. Phase 1 will include meetings, physical therapy, and conditioning. Phase 2 will include a three-week training routine in which offensive players will line up alongside defensive players, and vice versa.

Phase 3 will include four weeks of organized team activities (OTAs). This will include 10 days of 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 workouts. In addition, seasoned players will have to attend required minicamps.
