Nazariy Rusyn explains main Sunderland problem since summer transfer

Sunderland forward Nazariy Rusyn has spoken about his move to Wearside and the difficulties he has faced.
Nazariy Rusyn admits that the language barrier has been an issue since his deadline-day switch to Wearside.

The 24-year-old joined the Black Cats from Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk in September and has made four Championship substitute appearances, as well as one for the club’s under-21s.

Since joining Sunderland, Rusyn has been taking English lessons, and under-21s player Timur Tuterov has been assisting the striker in communicating with teammates and coaches. Still, the forward has had a difficult time.

 

 

“I’ll say this – it’s like another planet,” Rusyn said to Tribuna of life in Sunderland. “It’s difficult for me because I don’t speak the language – this is the main issue.” Football players must communicate effectively. It’s difficult, but that’s okay; I’m getting used to it gradually. Now that the family has moved, things will be much easier. I need time, and I understand that I’m not in a hurry, so I try to listen to the coach, do what he wants, and get used to it.”

After previously playing in the Ukrainian Super League, Rusyn has been impressed with the standard of the Championship.

“High level,” he stated of England’s second division. “Very good championship, fast pace, and the players work well together with the ball; all of the guys are very technical.” This is a fantastic opportunity for me. I’m delighted I transferred to a squad where I can play and grow.

“The pace is much faster, and every team can beat every other team.” Almost all clubs are roughly equal, with the exception of Leicester. The games are extremely difficult; no simple matches exist.”
