Journalist predicts Milan man could join Serie A rivals

While waiting to see what the future holds for him, Stefano Pioli’s options for next season may have broadened due to interest from another Serie A team.

According to this morning’s news, Napoli has chosen Giovanni Manna, a former Juventus player, as their next sporting director. One of his first actions will be to select a new head coach, as Francesco Calzona’s future beyond this season is uncertain.

Sky correspondent Massimo Ugolini (via Radio Rossonera) detailed Napoli’s summer approach, which includes appointing the appropriate key figures and stabilising after a disastrous Scudetto defence.

“The first component of the re-foundation will undoubtedly be the selection of a new coach. Today, the most popular name is Italiano, which has been the president’s obsession since the days of Gattuso,” he remarked.

“He is in the same category as Stefano Pioli, another coach who could be suitable for Napoli. As long as paths diverge between him and Milan.

“The re-foundation has already begun with the choice of the new sporting director, a young man with ambition and enthusiasm to start again and make the big leap together.”

According to a report on the Sky website earlier this week, Pioli has generated enough positive results in the second half of the season to earn the final year of his contract.

Pioli’s confidence has also grown as a result of his continued participation in the Europa League, and the club’s administration now believes that the conditions are in place for him to stay as coach at least through 2024-25.
