“Unbelievable”- Alan Shearer blown away by what Newcastle target did this weekend

Alan Shearer was quite impressed with one Newcastle United target’s performance this weekend while on international duty.

Newcastle has had a busy international break, with Anthony Gordon making his England debut against teammate Bruno Guimaraes at Wembley.

They could have also been watching a few other games, since Shearer was particularly interested in one involving an exciting forward on Newcastle’s radar this season.

During this international break, there were a few quick goals, with Martin Dubravka conceding one against Austria seconds after kickoff, setting a new international record.

Just one second later, Florian Wirtz scored in the France versus Germany game, finding the top corner with a wonderfully executed effort to give Julian Nagelsmann’s side an early lead.

Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer was taken aback by Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Wirtz’s goal, which has sparked speculation that Newcastle could buy him.

The Magpies first shown interest in the 20-year-old over a year ago, but other elite teams have taken notice of his outstanding run in the Bundesliga, where he has 17 goal contributions this season while Leverkusen remains unbeaten.

Shearer asked Wirtz, “Did you see the goal?” It was fantastic. The way he stepped off the defender after the kickoff, grabbed the ball, spun, and smashed it in. What a start and what a goal for them!”

Wirtz would be perfect option for Newcastle

Newcastle are now lacking something unique, having struggled for form in recent months, causing them to slide down the Premier League standings and risk finishing in the bottom half.

Wirtz might bring the spark that Newcastle is missing and help them go back on track, and he has already received Shearer’s approval this season.

Although Eddie Howe does not normally play with a traditional number 10 on his squad, Wirtz can play on either wing if necessary, however the team may be adjusted to accommodate the German international.

Given that Wirtz has a contract with Leverkusen until 2027, it would undoubtedly be a high-profile signing, but one that may prove extremely successful if he continues on his current path.
