Manchester United are unlikely to sign Sofyan Amrabat this summer when his loan period expires, but a handful of Serie A giants have expressed interest.
The Red Devils signed Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina to provide Casemiro with much-needed competition. However, the borrowing arrangement hasn’t worked out.
Amrabat has only appeared in seven league games this season and has struggled to make an impression while playing in England.
Manchester United first signed the holding midfielder on loan for €9 million, with the option to buy for a further €20 million and €5 million in add-ons. However, it appears unlikely that the club will exercise this option at this point.
Fabrizio Romano has reaffirmed the club’s position on the Moroccan midfielder, as most signs point to him returning to Fiorentina in the summer.
“Sofyan Amrabat hasn’t had the easiest time on loan at Manchester United this season since joining on loan from Fiorentina, and there’s now speculation about a decision already being made for the summer,” Romano said in a statement.
“However, my understanding is that no decision has been given to Amrabat or Fiorentina thus far. Still, a decision is expected shortly, and it’s possible that the Red Devils will choose not to keep the player and instead go in a another way.
“Still, it’s worth remembering that Amrabat has shown real quality in recent years and performed on the biggest stage with Morocco at the World Cup.”
Amrabat has suitors in Serie A
While a permanent move to Old Trafford this summer appears improbable, Amrabat has a couple of clubs interested in signing him.
According to reports from earlier this month, Juventus has a ‘obsession’ with signing the 27-year-old, and they are not alone in their interest.
According to Tuttosport, AC Milan is also interested in signing the holding midfielder as Stefano Pioli seeks to improve his alternatives in the middle.
In addition to the Moroccan international, Milan is rumored to be interested in Basel’s Renato Veiga and Udinese’s Walace.
Amrabat has spent the majority of his career in Serie A, and a move to Milan or Juventus could be the best option for him right now.
His contract with Fiorentina expires in 2025, so this summer could be their last chance to cash in on him while they can.
With a permanent move to Old Trafford unlikely at this point, the 27-year-old might join Juventus or Milan instead.
