Sunderland are currently opting to sign young talent and develop them, but some experience is required.

Hardie is only 26 years old, so he isn’t too far outside the market that the Black Cats are searching for.

The striker has been prolific in recent years for Rangers, Blackpool, and now Plymouth.

He has five goals and three helpers in 11 games this season. His team is now ranked 18th in the Championship.

He is a poacher, but he is much more than that. For Argyle, he is at ease playing in a front two alongside Morgan Whittaker.

Along with some of the North East’s youthful talent, he might assist develop those around him.

His passing ability allows him to contribute in ways other than scoring.

The Scotsman only signed a new contract in the summer, so his club may seek a greater fee.

Having said that, a fee of less than £5 million is expected to be requested.
For a player with 30 goals in his past two seasons, it is worth a go.
